Sync keeps a current copy of your files in a second location, which is useful, but it is not an independent backup. A file that is accidentally overwritten, deleted, or encrypted by ransomware syncs in that same bad state, often within minutes, and the earlier clean version is not automatically preserved. How does this compare to backing up an office server or NAS?

An office server or NAS organizes your files and makes them available to your team, but it is not an off-site, independent backup by itself. Ransomware that reaches your network can encrypt files on a server the same way it would a workstation, and a fire, theft, or hardware failure at the office affects a NAS just like any other on-site device.
